From History of Early Cambridge, VT
Cambridge, VT was granted a charter Nov. 7, 1780 to Samuel Robinson, John Fassett, Jr., Jonathan Fassett and 64 others. The town was surveyed in 1783 by Amos Fassett. In 1784 Amos Fassett, John Fassett, Jr. and Samuel Montague moved their families there from Bennington, VT. The first sawmill was built that year by Amos Fassett. The town was organized in 1785 and John Fassett was the first clerk. They occupied the cleared land and made potash, whiskey, etc. Lots were drawn by the Fassetts at a meeting of proprietors of Township of Cambridge, County of Rutland, on July 1, 1783. John Fassett, Jr. was moderator. In the draw of lots - John Fassett No. 19, John Fassett, Jr. No. 68, Hannah Fassett No. 32, John Fassett, III No. 13, Jonathan Fassett No. 49, Amos Fassett No. 17, Elias Fassett No. 40.
The "Proprietors" voted at a meeting 26 March 1784 to John and Benjamin Fassett the privilege of pitching 200 acres in their undivided land provided they had a grist mill running in said town by 1 Nov. 1785. Also voted to give John, Amos and Benjamin 200 acres provided they have a saw mill ready to saw by November 1784 in Cambridge, VT. This mill gave settlers a chance to cover their houses and have floors and doors. Samantha Fassett, daughter of Amos, was the first child born in Cambridge, VT. Dr. John Fassett was the first physician. He remained there 40 years then went West. Dr. Nathan Fassett came to Cambridge 1789-1790.
Amos Fassett served in the Revolutionary War. See D.A.R. Patriot's Index. After living in Cambridge, VT, in the Spring of 1797 Amos Fassett together with six other men settled the town of Enosburgh, VT. The first deed recorded in Enosburgh dated 1 April 1779 was by Amos Fassett to Benjamin Fassett. Amos was among the charter members of Grand Isle, VT. Charter granted by Gov. Chittenden 27 Oct. 1779. A religious book "Election and Reprobation" or "Decrees of God and Accountability of Man" was written by Amos Fassett and printed in 1818 in Windsor, Vt., after his death. He died very suddenly while serving as Associate Judge during Court held at St. Albans, VT on Feb. 10, 1810. He died of asthma. He was buried in the door yard of his home. The following is from Vol. 2, Part 1, page 132, VT Historical Gazetteer: "Anna Fassett was one of the organizing members 11 Oct 1811 of the Congregational Church, Enosburgh, VT. Among the five children baptized there on Oct. 13 were Alvin (age 18), Anson and Pliney Fassett, sons of widow Anna Fassett and the late Amos Fassett.
Page 155 of the Gazetter mentions Officers and Soldiers of the War of 1812 from Enosburgh, VT: Martin Follett, Capt.; Benjamin Follett, Lieut.; Alvin Fassett, Corp.; and Hiram Fassett, Musician.
