BIOGRAPHY: TFG-105-mary Ann an Samuel buried in Chapel Cemetery, Jackson Co., MI. Excerpts from the obituary of Rev. Sameul Fassett, Jr. from the "Parma Michigan News" 1906: "Unbelievers may dispute books an dsermons and disbelieve creeds but cannot dispute a Godly life. He preached over 60 years, mostly in Parma, MI, a few years on California and South Dakota.
Hi Father Rev. Samuel Fassett was seized with Western fever so moved to Michigan in 1830. The Michigan Central R.R. was being built then. They took a team of horses and household goods, took a boat to Detroit where they bought a team of oxen. With these teams they traveled to their new farm home in Sandstone, Jackson Co., MI. The farm was 80 acres of so called "Oak Openings" He helped plant many fruit trees now standing. He taught tree grafting to this neighbors. He officiated at 1,500 funerals and married 800 couples. He kept no record of conversions or baptisms. His circle of friends was large, he never had an enemy as he was a just and devout man."
Rev. Samuel, Jr. moved to South Dakota in 1883 living there and in California until NOv. 1899, when he returned to Parma, where he spent the remainder of his days.
The Sandstone, Jackson Co., MI 1850 Census lists Sameul, his wife Mary Ann, and the first six children. Sarah Jane not listed, but a daughter Maryan, 9 is listed. This family is not in the '60, '70, or '80 Census.
