BIOGRAPHY: TFG-39-Charles Safford Fassett went to Colorado where he became a successful silver miner. Later he sold his mine near Platero, CO (TFG has Platora, CA) for $50,000 and invesed some of the money in a ranch near Monte Vista, CO. After his marriage to the beautiful red haired widow, Lillie, he was involved in her business enterprises. She started a store, became postmaster, organized a public library and contributor in every ways to Monte Vista's growth. This remarkable woman is included in a fine book, Land of Adoption by Beryl McAdow. Her mother came to live with her. It is believed she was from Beaver Dam, WI.
From http://www.monte-vista.org/mountain_facts/history.cfm
HistoryDuring the summer of 1881, when the railroad was extended from Alamosa to Del Norte, a watering tank was established on a siding where Monte Vista now stands. This was known as the Lariat siding, and it was here that Lillian Fassett opened the first store in what was to become Monte Vista. In July of 1882 the original townsite was platted and called Lariat. On May 1, 1884, the town was renamed Henry in honor of its promoter, T.C. Henry. The town was renamed Monte Vista (Spanish for "mountain view") in 1886 when it was incorporated. The first meeting of the town board was on October 2, 1886 with its first mayor, Charles S. Fassett, presiding. In February of 1913 Monte Vista was organized as a city of the second class. In April of 1922 Monte Vistans adopted a city home-rule charter and the city manager form of government under which the municipality still operates today.
1870 US Census he is a Miner living in Central City, Gilpin Co., CO. Appears to be staying at same place as his Father.

BIOGRAPHY: TFG-210-Margaret was also a schoolteacher. She was interested in history, genealogy and nature. She laid the important ground work for this book. Her correspondence and contacts with the older generation of Fassets was invaluable. She was always involved in organizations and civic affairs. Her death, leaving this project unfinished, caused me to carry on the family history K.F.S.
See "Allied Families" for Kasson and Robinson genealogy.
