Alice Fassett Keck
Appeared: 2004-02-05
June 25, 1905 -- February 1, 2004 Alice Fassett was born June 25, 1905 to Sallie Nicholson and Francis Keith Fassett in Dayton, Ohio. She attended Steele High School in Dayton, graduated from Oberlin Kindergarten School in 1926, and began a thirty-seven year career teaching primary grades and kindergarten in Oakwood, a Dayton suburb. Alice received her B.S. degree from Columbia Teachers College in 1936. She married a teaching colleague, Reiss M. Keck, in 1941, and became mother to his son, Charles. Alice's father imbued her with a love of classical music which enriched her life, and she enjoyed concerts and theatre. After Reiss died in 1992, she continued to live in Dayton, but in October of 1999 moved to Panorama City to be near her family. She was a member of the Olympia Unitarian Universalist Congregation. Alice's personal qualities and her refined sense of decorum and propriety will be warmly remembered by her family and friends. Alice is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carolyn Keck; grandchildren, Bruce F. Keck, of Las Vegas, and Douglas B. Keck and David and Karen Keck Hougan of Olympia; great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Alexander Hougan, of Olympia; nieces, Carolyn Fassett Dykstra, of Charlotte, N.C., and Marjorie Fassett Merwin, of Philadelphia; nephews, James O. Fassett, of McKinney, Texas, and Rolland Wilson, of Cincinnati; sister-in- law, Nellie Keck Rice, of Newark, Ohio; and 6 grand-nieces, 1 grand- nephew, and their children. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel in the Quinault at Panorama City on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at 1:30 p.m., with the Reverend Arthur Vaeni officiating. Remembrances may be made to the Olympia Child Care Center or Olympia Unitarian Universalist Congregation Social Concern Committee.
