BIOGRAPHY: TFG-109 Josiah had been a teacher in CT and was a member of an Artillery Co. in the Revolutionary War. He along with his wife and family migrated to the Wyoming-Wilkes-Barre area and tarried awhile. They then came up the Susquehanna River in a Durham boat (named for Durham, on the Delaware River where such boats were built). The trip from CT to Wyoming was accomplished with two horse teams, camping out on the way. He purchased 300 acres of land in Braintrim, Luzerne Co., PA.; came up by boat to occupy it. He first built a small log cabin on two cleared acres by the river. In 1801 surveryors, by authority of the State surveryed the land in Braintrim Township and set apart land to compensate the early CT settlers and claimants. They numbered lots and made awards. They lived with Josiah. Josiah was alloted No. 25 and part of No. 26 lots in Braintrim, altogether 500 to 600 acres.
Josiah built a new double log cabin and kept a tavern, patronized by raftsmen and boatmen. He cleared the farm with the help of his sons. He became well to do. He was Justice of the Peace from 1810(1806) until his death. This land is now being considered (under protest) for the site of a nuclear power plant.
In Brooklyn, CT Jan 18, 1799 Joshua Miles buys of Josiah Fassett of Braintrim, Luzerne Co., PA for ten dollars - two eighth parts of a pew in the meeting house of the First Society of Brooklyn, CT, it being the second pew North of the East door in said meeting house - and Josiah Fassett guarantees that the pew is free from encumberances except for a privilege belonging to my honored mother Hannah Fassett, of sittting is said pew during her natural life.
Braintrim, Luzerne Co., PA is now Scottsville, Wyoming Co. PA.
