BIOGRAPHY: From Obit - Nelson Brainard FASSETT - TFG-56
At the time of his death he was the oldest living alumnus of the University of Michigan living in Chicago, and a noted inventor.
He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1864, and entered the practice of law at Adrian, Michigan. Later he was admitted to the bar in St. Louis. His interest in inventions gradually weaned him from the law, and finally he abandoned his practice entirely. Among his inventions were a twine binder for use on harvesters, a riding support for bicycles, a link belt coupling, and the chain linking machine which did away with the hand method of joining the links. In 1882 he removed to Moline, Illinois, where he was identified with the Moline Malleable Iron Company. He removed to Chicago in 1892.
