Ai Ransom Fassett and Hiram Fassett
(From Harry S. Douglas, County Historian of Wyoming Co., NY in 1968)
"In searching the Census Records, I found Salathial Fassett listed as head of a family in Gainesville, NY in the 1830 Census, page 197. The family consisted of one male and one female between 25 and under 30 years.
The 1840 Census lists two families: p. 90, A. R. Fassett with one male under five, one male 20-29, a female under 5 and a female between 20-29.
On p. 92, is the family of Nathan Fassett, with a a male 10 and under 15; a male 30 and under 40; a female under five, and a female 30 and under 40.
None of the above appear in the 1850 Census. I did locate a family listing #319, the family of Nathan Brown, age 35, and a Catherine Brown, 45, with two children: Adelia Fassett, born in New York; and a Jay B. Fassett, 7, born in New York. There were three young Brown children, and I assume this may have been a marriage of Widdow Fassett to a Mr. Brown. Of course, that is merely a guess.
The absence of the family (Fassett) in the 1850 Census suggests they may have left earlier than 1850 for Toledo and Findlay, Ohio. There are no marriage or birth records that early. I have no deaths listed under that name for the Gainesville cemeteries."
In assembling this family, excellent help came from Mae Fassett, 341 E. Hardin Street, Findlay, Ohio, a descendant of Hiram Fassett and Josephine Fassett, 5507 Seaman Road, Oregon, Ohio. Their fathers Ai Ransom Fassett and Hamilton Hiram Fassett were cousins.
We were able to put together the family in this way: brothers living in Western New York State.

There are several possibilities as to the parent of the above but considerable original research must yet be done.

Concerning Nathan Fassett we have this history sent me by his nephew Herbert. R. Fassett(3), Elias Salathiel(2), Ai Ransom, Sr.
"Nathan Fassett was a son of Ai Ransom Fassett. He was born in Wyoming Co., New York. He enlisted in the Civil War in the 2nd Ohio Heavy Artillery. He was captured and placed in Andersonville Prison where he became very ill. His father and brother went to the prison and obtained his release. Shortly after he returned home, he died adn was buried in North Oregon, Ohio Cemetery."
