BIOGRAPHY: TFG-53-From "History of Alleghany Valley": Col. Lewis Henry Fassett enlisted in the 64th NY. Volunteers Co. G at the outbreak of the Civil War. He was cited for gallantry and meritorious conduct. The 64th NY Volunteers lost half of their men in the famous Wheat Field, at Gettysburg, in the war. In "New York at Gettysburg," Vol. II, pages 518-534, it tells "Col. Fassett was taken prisoner in the Battle of the Wilderness, but escaped without giving up his sword." Also see Fox's History of Regimental Losses in American Civil War." After the war, Col. Fassett returned to Franklin, PA, and engaged in the oil and real estate business.
