Was a pioneer in Scottsville, having come with his parents from Ct. He was a fine businessman and Justice of the Peace for twenty years, and a commissioned Major in the Militia. He was called Major John Fassett. He kept a store with his sons help, and in 1826 he became the first postmaster. Mail was carried from Tunkhannock to Towanda once a week on horseback. The place was named for Judge David Scott of Wilkes-Barre.A Democrat until the Civil War, then a Republican.
